WHY MYKONOS

Mykonos is known as the “Island of the Winds” and is located at the heart of the Cyclades. It is perhaps more broadly known for its exceptional beaches, award-winning restaurants, legendary parties, expensive yachts, dreamy villas, luxury hotels and 5-star service…

We found and fell in love with Mykonos Dunes + Villas during our 2024 visit and are excited to bring a group back to retreat in this place. This retreat will invite both a classic “Greece Summer” experience, as well as an oasis for rest + rejuvenation. Our Home for the retreat is tucked-back enough from the town that you can step away from the noise and savor the expansive elements that surround you but close enough that you can easily pop into town if you are in the mood to dance, shop or explore.

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Alexandra Sheppard (she/her)

Alex always had an appreciation for movement but will never forget the particular spark she found in her first yoga class in 2007, while in college as a BFA student in Dance. After graduating from college she moved to New York to pursue her professional dance career. During her time in NYC Alex had the pleasure of dancing with many talented artists as well as continuing her exploration of movement in various trainings and certifications; Yoga (certified 2010), Mat Pilates (certified 2010), Strength and Conditioning (certified 2014), as well as Functional Range Conditioning (certified 2016). During her time in New York she also began exploring the art of cooking. She became a personal chef and retreat chef. Alex loved her 8-year stint in New York and for the many ways it provided her with new skills. She now lives in Oakland with her husband, fur babies and son; Finley. After spending time rooting into her Homelife and applying her certifications through her work as a yoga, pilates and dance teacher, she is excited to start leading retreats again pouring her vast knowledge into opportunities for guests to experience a uniquely creative sense of adventure.

LISA VORTMAN (SHE/HER)

Lisa is a dynamic leader who cultivates the art of giving time—to oneself, to others, and to the art of living. With nearly two decades as a photographer and producer, she is skilled as supporting individuals and brands through honest self expression. Her gift for shifting perspectives allows her to find beauty and potential in everything.

In 2014, yoga became a vital part of her creative practice. After earning her 200-hour certification in 2016, she began leading retreats to help others embody self-trust and connection to their true nature. Her work took a new dimension after receiving the 2023 SXSW Award for Community Service for *Paint the Void*, a historical art project launched in 2020. This inspired her to pursue an Art Therapy certification and merge her passions for yoga and creativity, leading to the evolution of Conscious Creative Living as you find it now.

Lisa will complete her 300-hour yoga certification in June 2025 and looks forward to deepening her retreat offerings with more extensive teachings in movement, meditation, Yin yoga, and philosophy.

ABOUT THE HOSTS

NORA BRUHN, ARTIST + FACILITATOR

Nora’s purpose is to serve as a bridge—a reminder that we live in an interconnected world. We are nature, and we are never truly alone. With one foot in San Francisco and the other in the forests, deserts, and waterways of California, she draws wisdom from the natural world to fuel her art. Nora’s creative practice revolves around painting large-scale community murals, often featuring flowers bathed in dramatic lighting. She emphasizes the texture, transparency, and contours of each petal, carefully blending each hue she discovers in nature’s palette. Her compositions highlight the most captivating qualities of the flowers, offering viewers an immersive experience.

Her heart finds its home at the crossroads of community, art, and nature. As the owner and operator of The Nest, a community art space in San Francisco, she facilitates experiences such as the Smell Tour, Moon Circles, painting workshops, and other cultural events. Nora is deeply passionate about the unique and beautiful gift of life, and she strives to remind others of the rare privilege it is to be alive in this moment.

LISA VORTMAN, CREATOR + COACH

Lisa is a vivacious leader who advocates for giving time; to our Self, to others and to the Art of living. One of Lisa’s greatest assets is her ability to shift perspectives and see true beauty and potential in just about everyone and everything.

In 2014 Lisa discovered yoga as a vital practice for living creatively. As her own understanding of consciousness and wellbeing evolved, so did her vision for shared experiences. She began leading local and international creative and yoga retreats in 2014 and has built an incredible expertise in providing space for exploration so that others can give time to strengthening self-trust and connection to their own true nature, ultimately allowing them a shift in how to move forward better aligned and connected.

Lisa infuses the insights found from her own experiences while holding space and guidance of other’s curiosities and unique path.
